major
1) амер. специализация (В американских университетах нет того, что называется у нас факультетами (см. faculty). Преподаватели группируются по departments — это нечто среднее между факультетом и кафедрой, а студенты выбирают себе специализацию (major) и соответствующий набор курсов, по которым надо набрать определенное число зачетов (credits))
2) крупная (нефтяная) компания
